First launch of British OneWeb satellites from Vostochny due in late April

MOSCOW. March 2 (Interfax) - Launches at the Vostochny Cosmodrome will begin in late April, head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said.

"Rockets and booster stages are being stored in Vostochny assembly and testing facilities. The first launch of the year from the cosmodrome will take place in late April," Rogozin said on Twitter.

As reported earlier, four Fregat booster stages were brought to the cosmodrome to launch British OneWeb communication satellites, and three Soyuz-2.1b rockets were assembled to carry them into space.

Roscosmos signed a contract with Arianespace and OneWeb in June 2015, in order to carry out 21 commercial launches of 672 OneWeb communication satellites using Soyuz-2 rockets with Fregat booster stages from Baikonur, Vostochny, and the Guiana Space Center.

The first launch was performed from Kourou in spring 2019, and the second launch took place at Baikonur on February 7, 2020. The OneWeb communication satellite network is expected to provide broadband internet service to users all over the world.
