Situation in Afghanistan fraught with destabilization - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - The internal political situation in Afghanistan is alarming and may have negative implications for prospects of intra-Afghan negotiations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"It is alarming that the crisis unfolding [in Afghanistan] is fraught with the further destabilization of the already complicated internal political situation in the country and negative implications for launching inclusive intra-Afghan negotiations, which the conclusion of an agreement between the United States and the Taliban [banned in Russia] in Doha on February 29 made possible," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a commentary posted on its official website on Wednesday.

The main rivals in the recent presidential elections in Afghanistan, Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah, held two parallel inauguration ceremonies in Kabul on March 9, the ministry said.
