Preparedness of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Troops for fighting coronavirus checked in Amur region

MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - The preparedness of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Troops for fighting the coronavirus has been checked in the Amur region, Russia's Eastern Military District spokesman Alexander Gordeyev said in a statement.

"The radiation, chemical and biological protection unit stationed in the Amur region has practiced containment of emergency situations resulting from the risk of infection and spread of viruses," Gordeyev said.

Servicemen took soil samples, tested them for dangerous substances at a field lab, and estimated the area of possible contamination. They disinfected transports and military hardware operating in the 'contaminated' area.

"The training demonstrated high professionalism and readiness of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops to fulfill their missions," he said.

Last year, radiation, chemical and biological protection specialists took part in the cleanup of flood aftermath in the Amur region. They disinfected dozens of villages and cities to prevent outbreaks of dangerous infectious diseases.

The preparedness for fighting the coronavirus was checked on March 25-28 on Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu's order. In addition to the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Troops, the check involved the Aerospace Forces, the Strategic Missile Forces, the Engineering Forces, and medical organizations.
