MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - A tactical exercise involving combat missile firing has been held in the Astrakhan region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
"S-300 missile systems, Pantsir-S air defense missile and gun systems, and radar stations took part in the exercise. The exercise ended in practical launches of guided missiles at target rockets simulating aerodynamic targets, cruise missiles and drones. In total, more than 10 targets were destroyed," the ministry said in a statement obtained by Interfax.
"Air defense units were supposed to detect air targets at a large distance from pprotected facilities" during the exercise, it said.
"MiG-29SMT fighters and Mil Mi-8 helicopters, which flew at high speeds performing maneuvers and at low altitudes avoiding terrain, acted as the hypothetical enemy," it said.
