Lavrov welcomes U.S. interest in discussions on strategic stability

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - Russia has taken note of the interest shown by the United States in substantive discussions on strategic stability, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"[U.S. Secretary of State] Mike Pompeo phoned me a couple of weeks ago. I also want to speak to him on the phone within the next few days. He touched upon the issue of resuming talks on arms control and strategic stability in general. We vigorously welcome such interest on the part of our American partners, because we have been persuading them for a long time to begin tackling these problems more actively," Lavrov said in an interview with Russian and foreign journalists.

Russia and the U.S. intend to "resume work on strategic stability as a whole in a more substantive manner," he said.
