PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. April 14 (Interfax) - Russian Pacific Fleet marines have held the first drill involving snowmobiles and dog sleds, the fleet press service said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Given substantial amounts of snow typically seen by the regions since late fall till April, this transportation method enables mobile teams of the marines to successfully travel through rough terrain and the taiga," the statement said.
The marines practiced at the Radygino range in a suburb of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The marines practiced snowmobile and dog sled rides in the areas of limited use of combat hardware; groups of six marines were riding snowmobiles and dog sleds, and skiing as part of tactical raid drills.
"Tactical groups of Pacific Fleet servicemen alighted from snowmobiles, engaged and neutralized a group of mockup terrorists," the statement said.
