Epidemiological situation in Russian Armed Forces stable amid coronavirus pandemic - Russian Defense Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - The epidemiological situation in the Russian Armed Forces is stable amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement seen by Interfax on Tuesday.

"The epidemiological situation in the Armed Forces remains stable and completely controllable," the statement said.

"All personnel of the Russian Armed Forces are obligated to be examined by doctors and undergo temperature checks when they report for work. Any servicemen suspected of being sick are immediately sent to medical institutions for testing. More than 11,000 tests on servicemen have been carried out by now," the statement said.

"As a result of continuous preventive and diagnostics measures, the rate of respiratory infections in the Russian Armed Forces is lower than the average rate for the past five years," it said.

"For the purpose of preventing a coronavirus outbreak, all military units and entities of the Defense Ministry undertake daily preventive measures for their personnel and disinfect transport, official and residential premises, and physical infrastructure," the statement said.

A total of 5,554 stationary thermometric control posts have been deployed, and 58 monitoring and response taskforces have been created in military units.

The Kommersant newspaper said on Tuesday that three Russian servicemen had tested positive for coronavirus as of March 30, and at least 133 people were under observation as contacts of the patients.

The press center for the Central Military District said in early April that a teacher at the Russian Defense Ministry's Suvorov school in Perm was showing symptoms of coronavirus. According to the military, the teacher has not taught classes since March 27; he has been in self-isolation and has had no contact with colleagues or cadets.

Almost 130 cadets and teachers at the Suvorov school in Perm were tested for coronavirus, and none of the tests turned out positive, a spokesperson for the Central Military District told Interfax on April 5.
