Share of modern weapons in inventory of Russia's Central Military District air defense forces exceeds 70%

YEKATERINBURG. April 14 (Interfax) - The share of modern anti-aircraft weapons and radar systems in the inventory of Russia's Central Military District's air defense forces exceeds 70%, the district's press service said with reference to Vladimir Kukushkin, the commander of the district's air defense and air forces.

"The Central Military District's air defense and air force units are currently armed with modern S-400 Triumph air defense missile systems. An extra four S-400 systems are to be delivered to two air defense regiments stationed in the Sverdlovsk and Samara regions in 2020. The personnel of the Urals regiment has undergone retraining at a specialized training center," it said.

New highly automated S-350 Vityaz air defense missile systems are also to be delivered to missile regiments in Khakassia and the Krasnoyarsk territory in the midterm.

The S-350 Vityaz system has been developed by the Almaz-Antey Concern for tactical air defense units. Its operational range is 60 kilometers at altitudes up to 30 kilometers. The system is designed to destroy both aerodynamic and ballistic targets. Each launcher is armed with 12 anti-aircraft missiles, the district's press service said.
