Russian, Chinese foreign ministers discuss coronavirus, Afghan settlement

MOSCOW. April 14 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi spoke by telephone to discuss cooperation amid the coronavirus pandemic and other bilateral and international issues, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.

"On April 14, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov held a telephone conversation with China's State Council member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi," a statement reads.

The ministers "discussed the situation around the global spread of the coronavirus and considered both sides' measures to counter the pandemic," the Russian ministry said.

"A high evaluation was given to the Russian-Chinese interaction in solving practical problems on this track. The two sides reaffirmed their determination to strengthen cooperation for the protection of the lives and health of their citizens, and to coordinate their efforts in the global fight against the pandemic," the ministry added.

The pair also touched on several other bilateral and international issues, including Russia's and China's coordination within the United Nations and the advancement of a lasting settlement for Afghanistan, the statement said.
