Mutual release of Donbas detainees little step toward all-for-all exchange - German ambassador

KYIV. April 16 (Interfax) - Mutual release of detained persons in Donbas is an important step toward full mutual release of prisoners, German Ambassador to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen said.

"I am very happy to see 20 Ukrainian prisoners released today. With one day to go to the Orthodox Easter, this is truly good news for their relatives, and this is the next important little step toward an all-for-all exchange," the German embassy in Kyiv quoted Feldhusen as saying in Ukrainian on Thursday.

Decision agreed at the Paris summit on December 2019 must be implemented, she said, also emphasizing the importance of the call made by the UN secretary general to cease fire in all military conflicts across the world amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

"All these conflicts are terrible, but the conflict in Ukraine is particularly important for me, because I was living here when the war began. Since then, I have been carefully watching as the Ukrainian armed forces fight the aggressor in Donbas. There is nothing I want more than the arms in Donbas to finally go silent forever," Feldhusen said.
