YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. April 20 (Interfax) - Two groups of Pacific Fleet missile boats opened artillery fire at an airborne target flying offshore southern Sakhalin, the Southern Military District's press service for the Pacific Fleet said in a statement on Monday.
"Consistent with the scenario of the exercise, which took place in the Aniva Bay offshore southern Sakhalin, six missile boats attached to two taskforces deterred an air attack by a mockup enemy. Ilyushin Il-38 anti-submarine warfare planes created the exercise's tactical background. They airdropped targets on parachutes to accommodate the taskforces' needs," the statement said.
Artillery crews of missile boats hit the targets using 76mm AK-176 artillery systems and AK-630M rapid-fire artillery weapons.
"The crews also took jamming measures. Orlan-10 unmanned aerial vehicles were monitoring the exercise in the real-time mode," the statement said.
