Prosecution to say what punishment it will seek for accused spy Whelan in court on May 25 - defense lawyer

MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - The prosecution and the defense have finished presenting their cases in the trial of U.S. citizen Paul Whelan accused of spying.

"The parties finished presenting evidence today, and the parties will exchange oral arguments on May 25," Whelan's defense lawyer Vladimir Zherebenkov told Interfax.

During this proceeding, the parties will present their concluding statements, and the prosecution will say what punishment it will seek for the accused spy, Zherebenkov said.

In commenting on the proceedings, Zherebenkov said the defense is content with how they have passed. "The court has been impartial during the judicial proceedings. No violations of Whelan's right to defense have been allowed," he said.
