NUR-SULTAN. June 2 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan and Russia may soon coordinate an agreement on the design and construction of ground elements of the Baiterek space center, Roscosmos representative in Kazakhstan Anatoly Krasnikov said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
"We have reached the stage of the agreement's coordination between the client, i.e., Kazakhstan, and our enterprises, which will design this center [Baiterek] and will perform the construction works, which will naturally involve Kazakh enterprises," Krasnikov said.
"Hopefully, the agreement will be coordinated shortly," he said, adding that the agreement "is quite large, sizable, and long-term."
"We're glad that Kazakhstan is ready to begin funding the project, which will create the center's ground infrastructure. For our part, we are actively designing the rocket, a new medium-lift rocket, which will be launched from the center," Krasnikov said.
"We hope to fulfill our part of the deal in due time and expect the Kazakh side to do its part of the job in due time, as well, so that we have a serviceable space center to launch Russian rockets from," he said.
