MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) -The AS-34 autonomous rescue vehicle has drilled assisting a distressed submarine which has run aground in the Kola Bay, the press service of Russia's Northern Fleet said.
"Rescue divers practiced vehicle descent onto the water from the Mikhail Rudnitsky vessel, surface maneuvering and submersion to a depth of up to 100 meters," the fleet's press service said in a statement.
The vehicle drilled searching for a simulated submarine in distress and latching onto the coaming platform, it said
"The divers tested communication systems and practiced interaction with the command and control center at the Mikhail Rudnitsky rescue vessel during the exercise. On completing the drills, the vehicle was lifted from the water and placed inside the vessel's hold," the press service said.
The AS-34 deep-water autonomous rescue vehicle of Project 1855 Priz is designed the Nizhny-Novgorod-based Lazurit Central Design Bureau for rescuing the crew of a distressed submarine at a depth of up to 1,000 meters. The vehicle's endurance is 120 hours. Its sailing range is 39 kilometers.
In 2014-2016, the vehicle underwent repairs at the Kanonersky Ship-Repairing Plant in St. Petersburg. Following the repairs, the vehicle was able to exceed the 1,000-meter submergence limit in the Norwegian Sea.
