PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. June 15 (Interfax) - Russia is retaining the parity with the United States in the number of nuclear warheads and delivery vehicles, but the country is leading in the field of promising developments of weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We have actually done a lot regarding the development of the nuclear defence complex as well; we are maintaining the approximate parity with the U.S. in terms of delivery vehicles and in the number of warheads, but we are definitely leading in our promising developments all the same," Putin said in an interview with Andrei Kondrashov during the Vesti Nedeli weekly news program on the Rossiya-1 (VGTRK) television channel.
"We are not just modernizing our traditional potential of weapons; we are putting into service new complexes. In this respect, I can say with confidence that we are number one in the world today as regards this indicator," Putin said.
