Kremlin negative about Kyiv receiving NATO partner status

MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - The Kremlin does not see as symbolic the decision to grant the status of NATO Enhanced Operating Partner (EOP) to Ukraine on Russia Day, celebrated on June 12, but notes the very fact of the granting of this status, which is not good for strengthening European security, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Let representatives of the North Atlantic Alliance confer on the symbolism of particular actions; that's not our business. In this case, we pay attention to the essence of ongoing processes," Peskov told journalists in response to the relevant question.

"We are always closely monitoring the processes in which NATO, so to speak, absorbs more and more countries in various formats. We don't think this is good for strengthening security and stability in Europe," he said.
