Georgian PM expects more stable presence of NATO ships in country's territorial waters

TBILISI. June 26 (Interfax) - Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia hopes that the calls of naval ships of NATO countries on Georgian ports will become more frequent.

"We must do everything for the appearance of NATO and strategic partners in Georgian Black Sea ports to become more frequent and stable," Gakharia said in parliament on Friday delivering his annual report.

Speaking of cooperation with NATO on Black Sea security issues he said that relations with the alliance in this direction are strengthening.

The visits of NATO ships to Georgian territorial waters have become frequent in the last few years. The latest call was made on June 23 on port Batumi by USS Porter (DDG-78). It was the third visit of the destroyer to Batumi. The vessel is armed with Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Earlier this week, the press service of the Border Police of the Georgian Interior Ministry reported that the destroyer conducted joint exercises with Georgian coast guard patrol boats.
