Coronavirus situation hasn't significantly impacted Russian Armed Forces - Shoigu

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Armed Forces are implementing their combat training program almost as it was originally planned, despite the coronavirus pandemic, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"The spread of the coronavirus infection has not significantly affected the Armed Forces on the whole," Shoigu said during a teleconference on Tuesday.

"The program for the winter training period [from December 1 to June 1] has been implemented virtually in full," he said.

"Only a minor part of the events involving travel to other regions and abroad has been postponed to the summer period," Shoigu said.

As of June 29, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the Russian Armed Forces was 1,355 among military personnel, 200 among cadets, and 223 civilian personnel were sick. Since March, 6,403 people in the Armed Forces have recovered from coronavirus.
