All Russian servicemen get tested for drug use - Shoigu

MOSCOW. June 30 (Interfax) - The system being implemented in the Russian army of preventing drug addiction tests all armed service personnel for potential substance abuse, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"Annually, necessary tests are carried out among 100% servicemen. Over a million test kits are purchased for this purpose," Shoigu said during a conference call on Tuesday.

The drug use prevention system was approved in 2017 and has since ensured coordinated actions among military commands, units and formations, he said.

"This system helps detect drug users prior to their being drafted into military service or signing of a contract. There is also a separate drug addiction test for applicants to military higher-education institutions," Shoigu said.
