ST. PETERSBURG. July 2 (Interfax) - The St. Petersburg City Court has found Vladimir Neyelov guilty of treason and sentenced him to seven years in a high-security penitentiary, the press service for St. Petersburg's courts said on Thursday.
The case was heard behind closed doors as its materials are classified.
"The court established that Neyelov transferred information dealing with the training and retraining of operatives of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation to a German consulting company in exchange for a cash reward," the press service said.
Neyelov pleaded guilty to some of the charges filed against him, but said that he did not consider the information transferred by him to be secret, the press service said.
Neyelov is an expert at the Center of Strategic Trends and the Center of Strategic Estimates and Forecasts. He specializes in studying private military companies (PMC) and the phenomenon of "privatization of the military sphere," the specifics of modern wars, military doctrines and strategies, revolutionary changes in military science, and so on.
Neyelov is also the author of a number of works related to strategic research and military-political analysis.
