Russian security services detain group of accomplices, recruiters of int'l terrorist organization in Kaliningrad

KALININGRAD. July 8 (Interfax) - A group of accomplices and recruiters of the terrorist organization Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad banned in Russia has been uncovered and detained in Kaliningrad, Yekaterina Ispravnikova, a spokesperson for the Federal Security Service (FSB) office of the Kaliningrad region, told Interfax on Tuesday.

"A group of members of a clandestine regional cell of the international terrorist organization has been uncovered by officers from the FSB's regional department together with border guards," Ispravnikova said.

"A series of search operations helped identify four people coming from the Central Asian region who recruited and ideologically trained migrant workers coming to the [Kaliningrad] region from Central Asian countries. They were trained to be further transferred to a combat zone," she said.

Extremist literature, flags, and paraphernalia of the international terrorist organization were found at the detainees' homes, she said.

The accomplices of terrorists have been detained, and security services are analyzing details of their activities, Ispravnikova said.
