Kremlin declines to assess Yanukovych's prospects in Ukraine, considers him former president

MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - The Kremlin has refrained from assessing former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych's possible prospects for the future.

When Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was talking to journalists on Thursday, he was asked how the Kremlin assesses Yanukovych and whether it believes Yanukovych has any prospects in Ukraine. The question was asked in the context of the fact that Yanukovych turned 70 on July 9.

"In this particular case, this is a former president of Ukraine, who ceased being president of Ukraine as the result of a coup, a forcible coup that took place in that country. That's probably what can be said. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on any measurements of Mr. Yanukovych's [electoral] ratings in Ukraine, I simply don't know whether these ratings have been measured, and if they have, who's done it," Peskov said.
