MOSCOW. July 9 (Interfax) - Russia has asked Interpol to arrest 14 individuals who are suspected of involvement in attacks on Russian servicemen and citizens in Syria, the Investigative Committee's spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko told Interfax on Thursday.
The announcement was made at a meeting with the committee's head Alexander Bastrykin, she said.
"The 14 accused of crimes against Russian armed service personnel and other Russian citizens in Syria have been placed on the international wanted list through Interpol for their subsequent extradition," Petrenko said.
In 2019 and in the first half of 2020 investigators 292 individuals were declared international fugitives, 60 were found, over 100 located, and 51 extradited, she said.
"To fulfill the tasks, the Investigative Committee has connected to 15 Interpol databases including the global police system of communication between Interpol agencies to search for the accused and missing persons, a platform for exchange of information on tracing and repatriating stolen assets. Thanks to the international counter-terrorism database the National Antiterrorism Committee has established six individuals wanted by the Investigative Committee for terrorist crimes," Petrenko said.
