Russian senator: Dutch govt's decision to bring Russia before ECHR for role in downing of MH17 looks strange

MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax) - The Dutch government's plans to file an application against Russia with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) over the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17) in eastern Ukraine is a "strange initiative," Konstantin Kosachyov, head of the Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee, said on Friday.

"This is quite a strange initiative in all respects: firstly, the investigation hasn't yet been completed, secondly, there are no court judgments at the national level, and finally, what does the ECHR have to do with it?" Kosachyov told Interfax.

The Dutch government announced on Friday that it has decided to bring the MH17 case against Russia before the ECHR.
