Azerbaijan prepared only for substantive talks on Nagorno-Karabakh - Aliyev

BAKU. July 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan will be willing to continue negotiations with Armenia on settling the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh only if they are substantive enough, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.

"Surely, our principal activity should be targeted at settling the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. This is an issue of national importance. The essential legal basis for a settlement has been formed in previous years," Aliyev said on Thursday, while receiving newly-appointed Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

Azerbaijan's position on the conflict remains unchanged, and no changes are possible, Aliyev said.

"Nagorno-Karabakh is historically Azerbaijani territory, and our territorial integrity must be restored. There can be no ambiguity here. As for negotiations, I'd like to stress yet again that we are not going to imitate negotiations and hold pointless videoconferences. Everything should make sense. I've said already that the OSCE Minsk Group should act very vigorously and should not be limited only to monitoring at the line of contact, but should also ensure substantive negotiations," he said.
