Kalibr missile strikes on mock enemy drilled in Crimea - Russian Defense Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. July 20 (Interfax) - The Black Sea Fleet has held an exercise which practiced destroying mock enemy ships using the Kalibr-NK missile system, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Monday.

"In the waters of the Black Sea, more than ten of the fleet's naval and air defense aircraft held a joint exercise with the frigates Admiral Essen and Admiral Grigorovich, alternately practicing bombing runs and mock destruction of a mock enemy's ships. The frigates' combat crews in turn attacked the 'enemy' with Kalibr-NK missiles electronically," the statement said.

The exercise was part of the current snap inspection of combat readiness in the Black Sea Fleet, the ministry said.

"The snap inspection involves over 3,000 troops, over 300 units of the fleet's weapon, military and special hardware including warships, support vessels and aircraft," it said.
