ST. PETERSBURG. July 21 (Interfax) - The first serial-produced frigate of Project 22350, the Admiral Kasatonov, has joined the Russian Navy, the press service of the Navy said.
The ceremony to accept the ship and raise the St. Andrew's flag on it was held on the Neva River, where the ship arrived to take part in the upcoming Main Naval Parade.
"The frigate Admiral Kasatonov, which successfully completed its state-commissioned trials, has joined the Navy in the harbor of the Neva River, on the beam of Senatskaya Square. The Navy has received one more ship able to effectively tackle the tasks set to it in the offshore maritime and oceanic zones," the press service quoted Navy Commander Nikolai Yevmenov as saying.
The Admiral Kasatonov is the second frigate of Project 22350. The Project 22350 lead ship, the Admiral Gorshkov, was commissioned for the Russian Navy in July 2018.
The Project 22350 ships are made using stealth technology. They are designed to operate in remote oceanic zones against enemy surface ships and submarines. The ships are capable of repelling air raids either independently or as part of naval units.
Frigates of this type are armed with a 130mm A-192 artillery gun, a Redut anti-aircraft missile system, and launchers for 16 Oniks or Kalibr-NK anti-ship missiles. They are also designed to carry a Paket-NK system as an anti-submarine weapon and a Kamov Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter.
