BISHKEK. July 22 (Interfax) - A group of military doctors has arrived in Kyrgyzstan from Russia to help the Central Asian country fight Covid-19, the press service for the General Staff of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces said on Wednesday.
"A special flight airlifted a group of military doctors from the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation to the Kant airfield in order to extend comprehensive assistance in countering the Covid-19 pandemic," the press service said.
The military specialists have also brought with them all necessary equipment, such as ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and pulse oximeters, as well as medications, the press service said.
"Six brigades made up of 20 doctors and nurses together with Kyrgyz military doctors will provide practical and consultative medical aid to servicemen, members of their families, and veterans at two military hospitals. Four such brigades will work in Bishkek and two in Osh. This group of medics is the first of the teams slated [to arrive in Kyrgyzstan] under the agreements reached by the heads of the two states, [Kyrgyz] President Sooronbai Jeenbekov and [Russian] President Vladimir Putin," the press service said.
The latest updates put Kyrgyzstan's total Covid-19 case count at more than 29,000. In total, 1,123 patients have died, and more than 15,000 have recovered.
