MOSCOW. July 23 (Interfax) - Creating nuclear weapons is not on Iran's agenda, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalili said in an interview with Interfax.
"As [Iranian] Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has said, the production of an atomic bomb and its use is 'haram', in other words it is prohibited in Islam. Consequently, such work is not on the agenda of nuclear activity of the Islamic Republic of Iran. On the other hand, inspections and verifications by the International Atomic Energy Agency [IAEA] confirm the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activity and the absence of any deviation in this activity," Jalali said when asked whether such concerns of the United States and Israel are justified and whether Iran actually has necessary technology to create nuclear weapons.
"Thus, attempts of the United States and the Zionist regime are focused exclusively on strengthening the wave of Iranophobia and diverting the international community's attention. The previous changes in the United States' foreign policy indicate that the United States is a big liar. [...] What is also puzzling is that these documents become the subject of scrutiny by one important international organization," he said.
