MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax) - The Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) are conducting an exercise with Yars systems in the Sverdlovsk region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"The mobile launchers of the Yars missile system have gone out on route patrol in the Sverdlovsk region. During the exercise, the strategic missile troops are practicing shifting the systems into a field position, up to 100-kilometer marches, dispersal of the launchers with a change of field positions, their engineering equipment, camouflage and escort measures," the statement reads.
During the maneuvers, the troops also crossed a contaminated area and conducted anti-sabotage drills using Taifun-M combat anti-sabotage vehicles equipped with unmanned aerial vehicles, the ministry said.
"After removing the equipment from the radioactive contamination zone, the Radiation, Chemical, Biological Defense units conducted a full special decontamination of the missile system's components, including the standalone launchers using the latest types of advanced hardware," the statement reads.
Yars is a strategic missile system, which exists in mobile and silo-based versions, with a firing range of up to 11,000 kilometers. The system uses multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles.
