MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax) - The Russian military has transferred four Sukhoi Su-27 fighters from Karelia to the Kaliningrad region, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The flight took place in accordance with international norms, the ministry said.
"The flight took place in strict accordance with the international rules for using air space, without violations of other states' borders, which is confirmed by objecting control devices," according to a report obtained by Interfax on Tuesday.
Four Su-27 fighters of the maritime aviation of the Russian Navy conducted a routine flight from an airfield in the Republic of Karelia to their base airfield in the Kaliningrad region on Tuesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The flight took place according to an approved route. The crews of the Russian planes were in constant contact with the air traffic control points during the flight," the ministry said.
In the meantime, the Associated Press has reported that Finland launched an investigation after two Russian Sukhoi Su-27 fighters allegedly violated the country's air space.
According to the statement issued by the Finnish Defense Ministry, the presumed violation of the Finish air space took place over the Gulf of Finland, near Helsinki. The statement said the incident happened on Tuesday around 2:00 p.m. and lasted about two minutes. F-18 fighters of the Finnish Air Force were used for "interception," the Finnish ministry said.
