Russian ambassador in Minsk demands consular access to detained Russians, sends note to Belarusian Foreign Ministry

MINSK. July 30 (Interfax) - Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev has said he has sent the Belarusian Foreign Ministry a note demanding consular access to the detained Russian citizens.

"At a meeting with the foreign minister, Vladimir Makei, on July 30, I stressed that the embassy must and will secure protection of the rights of the Russian citizens temporarily detained by law enforcement agencies. Access by consular staff to our citizens must be provided swiftly," Mezentsev told journalists in Minsk on Thursday.

The relevant note has been sent to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, he said.
