MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax) - The deployment of the latest Russian weapons and extra military contingents in those sectors where national security threats arise could become a response to the transfer of U.S. troops to Russian borders, Russian Defense Ministry Inspector Maj. Gen. Vladimir Bogatyryov said.
"Of course, there will be a military response to these steps taken by Washington. These measures could involve the placement of carriers of the advanced weapons as close as possible to the borders of those countries from which the threat will arise, along with the deployment of additional military contingents on the western borders of Russia," Bogatyryov told Interfax on Wednesday.
Among the advanced weapons that could be used as factors to deter a potential aggressor, Bogatyryov mentioned, in particular, the air-launched hypersonic system Kinzhal, the laser combat system Peresvet, and the Tsirkon missile.
"Russia will retaliate against U.S. actions in a calm and comprehensive way," he said.
"It will reinforce the ground troops of the Western Military District and will continue modernizing the forces and troops of the Baltic Fleet, arming them with means of delivery of high-capacity munitions, including hypersonic weapons and other types of the latest weapons, to the places of the possible disposition of the NATO troops. We shouldn't forget that Russian military aviation, including strategic, has sufficient capacities," Bogatyryov said.
"The inclination to bring groups of troops closer to our borders is pointless from a military point of view," Bogatyryov said. "But such actions are extremely dangerous, as careless, unauthorized actions, accidental errors could lead to a military conflict with unpredictable consequences," he said.
