'Kyiv terrorist' demanding meeting with media, police strategy negotiations for now - Interior Ministry

KYIV. Aug 3 (Interfax) - The man who is currently in the Leonardo business center in downtown Kyiv and claims to have explosives in his backpack has demanded a meeting with journalists, Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko told the Ukraine 24 television channel on Monday.

"Negotiations are underway with the criminal. We're demanding that he surrender. But he's demanding that media outlets be allowed access him so that he can give some interviews. It looks like the situation is following a scenario similar to what happened in Lutsk [where a bus with passengers was hijacked on July 21]," Herashchenko said.

"The strategy at the moment is to hold negotiations. Further decisions will be made depending on the results of these negotiations," he said.

"We've tentatively established that this man is 32 years old. It seems like we know who he is," Herashchenko said.
