KYIV. Aug 3 (Interfax) - A citizen of Uzbekistan who was in the Leonardo business center in central Kyiv claiming to have explosives in his backpack has been captured alive, Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko said.
"The terrorist has been captured alive. No explosions took place. Mine disposal experts are working at the site. There will be a trial and a lengthy prison term," Herashchenko said on Facebook on Monday.
The Security Service of Ukraine has also said that the operation to capture the terrorist was successful.
It was reported earlier that a man under 35 walked into the office of Universal Bank in the Leonardo Business Center located at the intersection of Volodymyrska and Khmelnytskiy Streets in central Kyiv around noon on Monday. The man said he had a bomb in his backpack and asked to call the police. Bank employees left the building and the head of a department chose to stay. A special police operation called Thunder was put in place and the police began negotiations with the terrorist and suggested that he surrender.
Herashchenko earlier said that the man is Sukhrob Karimov, a citizen of Uzbekistan.
