MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax) - The defense team for convicted spy Paul Whelan, a citizen of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Ireland, is planning to find out whether he has been transferred anywhere from the Lefortovo detention facility.
"We'll be looking into his possible transfer. We don't have accurate information on the matter at the moment," lawyer Olga Karlova told Interfax.
The defense team plans to visit Whelan on August 10.
Eva Merkachyova, a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission, told Interfax that Whelan had been at Lefortovo last Wednesday.
Paul Whelan's brother David told Interfax earlier on Monday that the family had learned that Paul might have been transferred somewhere from Lefortovo.
He said neither the family nor any of the four embassies were aware whether Paul had really been transferred and where.
