MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - The portion of modern weapons in the Russian Armed Forces should reach 70% by the end of 2020, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"We should fulfill government defense orders to 100% and increase the portion of modern weapons to 70% while maintaining a high level of hardware serviceability," Shoigu said on Wednesday when summarizing the results of Unified Military Goods Commissioning Day.
"I hope we'll continue to meet the schedule, as we were at the beginning of this year, and nothing, including coronavirus, will stop us from duly reaching every objective, commissioning all facilities, and receiving all necessary hardware, equipment, weapons, and ammunition," he said.
Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said during Unified Military Goods Commissioning Day that the portion of modern weapons stood at 68.5% in the Russian Armed Forces at the end of the first half of 2020.
"The fulfillment of government defense orders in 2020 will help increase the share of modern weapons and military hardware to 70%," Krivoruchko said.
"The plans for the delivery of planes have been fulfilled by 44%, and the indicators stand at 59% for helicopters and 30% for multifunctional vehicles. Plans for repairing rocket and artillery weapons systems have been fulfilled by 30%, and plans for repairing multifunctional vehicles have been fulfilled by 43%," Krivoruchko said when commenting on the fulfillment of government defense orders this year.
