Over 1,000 marines involved in exercise on Chukotka coast

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Marines are drilling coastal defense in the Chukotka Autonomous District, armored vehicles are involved.

"Over 1,000 services, 300 items of hardware, including the state-of-the-art BTR-82A armored personal carriers, the T-80BV tanks, the Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers, and other military equipment, are involved in the field exercise," the press service for the Russian Pacific Fleet said on Saturday.

According to the press service, the large landing ships Nikolai Vilkov, Oslyabya, Admiral Nevelsky, and Peresvet transported troops from the Kamchatsky and Primorsky marine units to Chukotka over a month ago.

"As part of the field exercise in Chukotka, a tactical drill involving live firing from small arms and equipment of combat vehicles is conducted, organization of mobile coastal defense is trained and the skills of driving armored vehicles over a rough terrain are mastered," the press service said.

Marines will also drill landing of personnel and hardware on an unimproved shore together with the crews of the large landing ships during the drill, it said.
