Open Russia activists beaten up, arrested in Minsk - movement

MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Open Russia coordinators Artyom Vazhenkov and Igor Rogov have been beaten up and arrested in Minsk, the Open Russia movement told Interfax.

"We discovered them on a video recording of the BelTA state-run news agency, which says that 'agent provocateurs of the disturbances' had been apprehended. Judging by the video, they were detained by riot police. Our coordinators weren't participating in anything. They went to Belarus to observe the election," Open Russia said in a statement.

The pair has not been heard from since last night.

BelTA published footage showing several severely beaten young men, who were lying handcuffed on the ground and telling the camera they arrived in Belarus as tourists.
