Belarusian FM discusses situation in Belarus with Swedish, Finnish counterparts

MINSK. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei in a phone call with his Swedish and Finnish counterparts on Tuesday discussed the situation in Belarus in the wake of the August 9 presidential election, the press service for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry said.

During the telephone call with Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde, the parties exchanged opinions "on the development of the situation in and around Belarus following the election and discussed the prospects for Belarus's interaction with the European Union and OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe]," the press service said.

In the phone call with Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, the ministers exchanged "opinions on the situation in Belarus in the wake of the presidential election, as well as on the prospects for further interaction," it said.

"The parties reiterated their mutual interest in preserving their channels of communication, continuing working contacts, and maintaining dialogue," the press service said.
