Intensity of reconnaissance flights near Belarus' borders doubles - Belarusian Defense Ministry

MINSK. Aug 25 (Interfax) - The intensity of reconnaissance flights in the areas bordering Belarus has more than doubled, the Defense Ministry's Air Force and Air Defense Troops Deputy Commander for ideology Anatoly Bulavko said on Monday.

"This [increased "curiosity" on the part of neighbors] is noticeable even to an untrained eye, by the sheer number of sorties carried out in the adjacent areas," Bulavko told the STV channel.

"Yes, this can be covered by the current exercises there. But the intensity of reconnaissance flights has more than doubled," prompting "certain reflections" and "some alarm," he said.

"At the same time, we are prepared for any contingencies," the deputy commander said.

He admitted that the increased intensity of flights in the neighboring countries was "slightly stressful." "After all, to each flight we react, track down, monitor our airspace," Bulavko said.
