MOSCOW. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Combat divers of a special taskforce have conducted an anti-sabotage exercise at the Novorossiysk naval base, the Russian Black Sea Fleet reported on Wednesday.
"According to the exercise scenario, the sailors were supposed to prevent acts of sabotage by a simulated enemy's underwater sabotage groups both at the Novorossiysk naval base's ship stationing sites and at its coastal facilities," the fleet said in a statement obtained by Interfax.
All attempts by simulated sabotage units to enter the naval base's sites and bring mockup explosive devices there were curbed, it said.
The combat divers from a special taskforce specializing in opposing underwater sabotage performed dives to various depths from boats to inspect the bottoms and propeller-rudder systems of the ships for the presence of explosive devices, it said.
"A group of underwater demolition specialists practiced defusing simulated explosive devices planted on the ship's underwater part," it said.
