MOSCOW. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Investigators have brought a new charge against Col. Gen. Khalil Arslanov, deputy head of the Russian General Staff, who was earlier arrested in a case involving embezzlement of 6.7 billion rubles.
"An investigator said in court today that such a charge [taking a large bribe] has been brought [against Arslanov]. Only the essence of this charge is to prolong his detention," Arslan Arslanov, the son of the accused, told Interfax.
The bribe amounts to several millions of rubles, Arslanov's son said. He said the charge is far-fetched.
"Why does a man who allegedly stole 6.7 billion need to take a bribe in an amount of several millions? This bribery count will most likely be included in the fraud charge later," Arslanov said.
The 235th garrison military court took Arslanov into custody for two months on February 7.
The general does not admit his guilt.
