No contacts between Putin, Merkel since German statement on Navalny poisoning - Peskov

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - There have been no contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel yet, and none have been planned, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"There have been no contacts between the president and the chancellor so far. There are no plans for now to hold any coordinated contacts in the near future," Peskov told journalists in response to a question whether Putin and Merkel have spoken since Germany released its statement on the poisoning of opposition activist Alexei Navalny.

Peskov noted that Putin and Merkel frequently speak over the phone. "So, if either side deems it necessary, such contacts may take place," he said.

"There is a certain deficit of information as to what caused the chancellor's affirmation of the fact of poisoning. For now, we don't understand that," Peskov said.
