Poland openly interfering in Belarusian internal affairs, financially supporting protests - Russian Foreign Ministry (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Poland is openly meddling in the internal affairs of Belarus, supporting the opposition in the country, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"The Polish authorities are continuing to openly interfere in the internal affairs of the Republic of Belarus. Warsaw is exerting pressure on Minsk, dictating its line of conduct, openly supporting, including financially, Belarusian opposition forces, including work with controlled NGOs," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Thursday.

Poland has launched media outreach efforts to influence public opinion in Belarus. The country is also initiating tighter EU sanctions against Minsk, she said.

"In this regard, we cannot but feel alarmed at the news about statements of the first person of the state about readiness to "take under protection certain regions in the neighboring republic," she said.

Russia is calling on Poland "to return to universally-recognized rules of the international law, to abandon the policy of undermining the sovereignty of the neighboring nation and using means unacceptable in international relations, including support of anti-government protests," Zakharova said.
