DAMASCUS. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Damascus on Monday, an Interfax correspondent reported.
Lavrov's plane landed at Damascus International Airport.
He is due to be received by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and to meet with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem.
This is Lavrov's first Syrian visit since February 2012.
Syrian media said on Sunday that a Russian government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov had arrived in Damascus. Photos published by the SANA news agency also feature Russian Special Presidential Representative for Africa and the Middle East and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
