Moscow, Damascus make headway in dealing with sanctions against Russian companies working in Syria - al-Assad (Part 2)

DAMASCUS. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Damascus is interested in the success of Russian investments in Syria, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said at a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov on Monday.

"I know that you've met with the minister of presidential affairs and that you made progress toward mutually acceptable solutions to many issues," al-Assad said in his opening remarks.

He said he was referring to, "above all, the sanctions against Russian companies working in Syria."

"We very much want these investments to be successful," al-Assad said

Russia "highly appreciates the partnership relations we have between our countries," Borisov replied.

He congratulated al-Assad on the victory of the National Progressive Front in the parliamentary elections.

Al-Assad noted the importance of the ongoing visit in the context of bilateral cooperation and emphasized the fact that the visit was paid several days after a reshuffle of the Syrian government.

The Syrian president thanked the Russian government heads for "the humanitarian assistance provided to us during the period of coping with the complex epidemiological situation."

He also thanked Russia for the assistance provided "throughout the entire period of the fight against terrorism."

"This applies both to the fight against terrorism and to the political struggle," al-Assad said.
