MOSCOW. Sept 22 (Interfax) - Lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, who represents former CIA employee Edward Snowden, has described as speculation U.S. media reports alleging that Snowden has agreed to pay $5 million from his book earnings to the U.S. government.
"We, both Snowden and I, know nothing about this. I think it's more speculation," Kucherena told Interfax on Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against the runaway American over the publication of his book "Permanent Record," which violates his non-disclosure agreement. The department has said that the U.S. government intends to impound all of the book's earnings.
According to CNN, Snowden has earned $4.2 million from his book and received slightly more than $1 million for his speeches.
