Putin tasks Melikov with decriminalizing Dagestan

MOSCOW. Oct 5 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has tasked the newly appointed acting head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov with continuing work on the republic's decriminalization.

"One must continue work on decriminalizing the republic. Vladimir Abdualiyevich [Vasilyev] has done a lot in this regard, he told about it, but one must persistently work further in this field," Putin said at a meeting in the videoconference format with former Dagestan head Vladimir Vasilyev and acting head Melikov on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, Putin issued an executive order to accept Vasilyev's resignation from the post of Dagestan head, appointing Melikov the acting head.
