BAKU. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Ankara will fully support Baku's course towards restoring Azerbaijani sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.
"Azerbaijan should finally regain its lands. It is entitled to do so, and we are doing everything we can to convey the stance and the rightness of Azerbaijan to the global public. Turkey is ready to support Azerbaijan in this area, both at the negotiating table and on the battlefield," Cavusoglu said at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on Tuesday.
"I have come here to demonstrate once again to the whole world that Turkey supports Azerbaijan. Today, Azerbaijan is fighting for the liberation of its lands and it has every capacity and strength to do so. Today, we are ready to listen to new wishes of Azerbaijan in order to continue our joint work with renewed vigor," Cavusoglu said.
In turn, Aliyev described the Turkish foreign minister's visit as a manifestation of support. "This is not your first time in Azerbaijan, but this visit is special. At the time difficult for Azerbaijan, this is a manifestation of open support by the fraternal country," he told Cavusoglu.
"My contacts with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his open statements have shown the world that Azerbaijan is not alone. The Azerbaijani people are sincerely grateful to the fraternal Turkish people and their president. Such country as Turkey, which has a high international authority, stands by Azerbaijan," Aliyev said.
This support inspires and gives additional strength; it also plays an important role in the provision of regional stability, he said. "I have said on these days that Turkey plays a stabilizing role in the region. The policy of Turkey, whose sole purpose is peace, has borne fruit both in the Middle East and in the Caucasus," Aliyev said.
"The Turkish president and I have repeatedly said that the Azerbaijani-Turkish unity should set an example for the entire world, and we are demonstrating and proving this in real life. I think that this unity will be the main condition of peace in the region," Aliyev said.
